Dakshin Yatra

The Embroiderer’s Guild is an organization for people interested in the practice and history of the textile arts (www.embroiderersguild.com). Jackfruit designed a ten-day tour through the Deccan which allowed a group led by Lesley Robin to visit and experience the rich embroidery, tie-dyeing, block printing and weaving centers of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Along with demonstration of actual techniques, the tour also focused on the transformation of craft into design, the shifts in government support and world markets and the revival of older techniques in contemporary India.
